About me
I have always been drawn to nature. It seems to hold a secret to the rhythm of life that we so easily miss. I grew up on a small farm in Michigan and spent a lot of my time outside. Exploring and observing. Patterns, connections, how each thing fits in. What I didn’t know then is that I was asking a much bigger question: what is the nature of belonging?
The question led me to study Psychology in undergrad. Looking for my own belonging. Wondering how on earth does anyone find that. What even is it. After undergrad I continued exploring in the fields of social work and behavioral therapy, but nothing quite fit. Eventually I decided to go to grad school to become a psychotherapist.
My grad program was extensive and took four years for me to complete. During that process I learned a lot about myself, what it means to be human, and how internal healing happens. I mostly learned this by diving deeper into my own healing work. I explored the darkness and pain of my own story in order to restore a greater sense of freedom and joy. I’ve discovered what it feels like to belong to myself, to others, and to the world around me.
In my free-time I enjoy many things, but some of them include spending time with the people that I love, hiking, theatre, playing with my cat, and making puzzles. I also spend a lot of time walking and listening to audiobooks and podcasts.
As a therapist, I value curiosity, empathy, honesty, and playfulness. I practice a variety of modalities depending on each client’s needs. But, I think about therapy relationally. We learn to exist in the world based off of how we are related too. This creates patterns of relating to ourselves and others which we may not even be consciously aware that we hold. Therapy is a space to make those unconscious patterns conscious so that you have more agency over your thoughts and behaviors. Therapy is a space to create a new relational experience. One where you are met with empathy and kindness rather than judgment. Since the therapeutic relationship is part of the healing process, I practice long-term therapy (typically a year or more). You have spent your lifetime becoming the way that you are and it takes time to learn new ways of being. As a part of this process, I’ll invite you to be open with me. You can disagree or be angry. You can feel whatever it is you feel. This is a space to have your genuine response. All of you is welcome here.
